Sulcorebutia juckeri is a species of plant in the genus Sulcorebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The species name goes back to the discoverer of the species, the Swiss field runner Hansjörg Jucker .
description
Sulcorebutia juckeri grows individually and only sprouts after injury with flat spherical bodies. With diameters of 7 to 10 centimeters, these reach heights of up to 3.5 centimeters and have a conical beet root that is up to 10 centimeters long. The strongly arched and chin-like cusps under the areoles are arranged in a spiral around the body. The elongated oval areoles located on the top of the cusps are 1 to 2 millimeters wide and up to 6 millimeters long. The up to 20 thorns are whitish, straw yellow, grayish to brownish and have a dark tip. They are divided into 10 to 12 (rarely also 16) radial spines and 1 to 2 (in old plants up to 8) central spines. They are 1 to 2 inches long.
The pointed, olive-green to brownish buds appear on the old, ground-level areoles. The brick-red flowers are up to 2.5 centimeters long and also have a diameter of 2.5 centimeters. The olive-green or brown fruits are 6 millimeters in diameter and contain 25 to 30 seeds.
distribution
Sulcorebutia juckeri is common in the Bolivian department of Chuquisaca at altitudes between 3400 and 3500 meters.
