Sulfonyl group
In organic chemistry, the sulfonyl group is the name of the functional group - SO 2 -. This is also known as the sulfone group . The substance group of chemical compounds bearing sulfonyl groups is called sulfones .
Sulphonyl compounds belong to the organic derivatives of oxygen acids of sulfur , in which the two organic radicals are bonded directly to the sulfur atom. The sulfonyl group can also appear as an unstable free radical .
Examples of sulfonyl compounds
- Methylsulfonylmethane, dimethylsulfone : CH 3 -SO 2 -CH 3
- Ethylsulfonylmethane, ethylmethylsulfone : CH 3 -CH 2 -SO 2 -CH 3
- Ethenylsulfonylethene, divinylsulfone : CH 2 = CH-SO 2 -CH = CH 2
Sulfuryl compounds
In connection with halogens or amides , the group is also referred to as a sulfuryl group, e.g. B .:
- Sulfuryl chloride : Cl-SO 2 -Cl
- Sulfuryl diamide : (sulfamide) NH 2 -SO 2 -NH 2
