Sulitjelma

Sulitjelma (Swedish: Sulitelma , popularly often Sulis ) is a place in the municipality of Fauske in the Norwegian Fylke Nordland . The former miners' settlement lies between Fauske in the west and the Swedish Sulitelma- Fjäll in the east. Before the mining operations located here were closed in 1991, pyrite and copper were mined. The mining products were removed with the Sulitjelmabane .

To the east of Sulitjelma is the mountain of the same name, Sulitjelma, on the border with Sweden at an altitude of 1907 m above sea level. d. The place Sulitjelma is also a starting point of the Nordkalottleden , a long-distance hiking trail that leads over the almost 1000 m high watershed into the Padjelanta National Park in Sweden.

The name Sulitjelma has pitesamic origins; however, the meaning is unclear.
