Sulla (cognomen)
Sulla (also Sylla , after the Greek transcription Σύλλα) was a Roman cognomen , whose origins long in Etruscan was suspected. In the family of the dictator Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix it was hereditary; he himself had received it (according to Plutarch ) because of his pale complexion.
