Sullivan Barrera (* 25. February 1982 in Cuba ) is an in Miami living Cuban boxers in the light heavyweight division .

Amateur career

Among the amateurs, Barrera won the gold medal at the Junior World Championships in the Hungarian capital Budapest in 2000 with victories over Micha Tabagoua , Sebastian Grothe , Chad Dawson and Imre Szellő .

In 2002 and 2003 he was third at the Cuban Elite Championships.

Other major opponents who Sullivan could beat as an amateur were Mariano Natalio Carrera and Beibut Schumenow .

Professional career

Sullivan made his professional debut in 2009 against Anthony Adorno with a technical knockout win in Round 1.

On June 24, 2011, he secured the vacant WBA latino title and the WBO interim world championship title through a classic knockout in round 2 in a 10-round battle against Frank Paines .

In December 2015, Sullivan defeated the Armenian-born German Karo Murat in a non-title fight with a classic knockout in the 5th round.

On March 26, 2016 Barrera suffered his first professional defeat, he lost to the undefeated US , former world champion in super middleweight Andre Ward in the Oracle Arena in Oakland , California , clearly on points and also went in the third round for the first time to the ground.
