history

The name of the desert refers to the natural occurrences in the vicinity of the settlement. The prefix Sulz- goes back to the Middle High German word of the same name, which means boggy . So the settlement was on the marshy brook. It got its name from the pouring ditch, which at times was probably also called Sulzbach. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1349. At that time, Ludwig von Hohenlohe excluded some relocated goods "ze Sultzebach" from the sale of his Kropfsberg fortress.

In 1414, the Limpurg taverns and the Counts of Castell divided the Hohenlohe holdings among themselves. Among other things, both sexes received parts of "Sulczpach" the "Weilerstat". A few years later, in 1423, the place was already deserted. Asmus Wihelmsdorffer confirmed under oath to Count Leonhard zu Castell that the "Weilerstat die izunt wüst liget" was called Sulzbach. It was at this point in time that reports were made of three lakes in the desert area.
