Sulzer tractors were built in Harthausen near Friedberg (Bavaria) from 1946 to 1963 . In the Wagnerei by Ignaz Sulzer in Harthausen were already before the Second World War tug built.

Sulzer tractors were typical ready-made trucks. A ready-made tractor is used when all the important assemblies have been purchased and only assembled. At Sulzer, everything was actually bought in and nothing was manufactured in-house. Even the bonnet was supplied by the Haugg press shop in Augsburg, which also made it for the Gutbrod tugs. Sulzer was extremely flexible in selecting its suppliers, so that components from a wide variety of manufacturers were combined.

The smaller of the two pre-war models had the Schlüter DSL 15 engine with 15 hp, the larger model the Deutz F2M313 with 20 hp. Both models had a Prometheus gearbox.

Although there were actually only a few different type designations after the war, a large number of different tugs were manufactured. Michael Bach even speaks of a confusion of types . The type S 15 had either an engine from MWM or Deutz, the gearbox was from Renk , but a Hurth gearbox was also available. From these two components alone, 4 different tugs were created, all of which were called S 15. What they all had in common was the power of 14–15 hp.

Parts that somehow went together and made a sensible tractor to be expected were combined and put together.

There was a similar diversity in the other types. Mainly engines from MWM, Deutz and Sendling were combined with gearboxes from Renk, Hurth or ZF . At the customer's request, components from other manufacturers were also used, in one case e.g. B. a Caterpillar engine .

Some types produced considerable numbers; almost 1900 pieces of the S 22 L were assembled by hand. The tractors with this type designation had 22-24 HP, depending on the engine used.

Sulzer also manufactured all-wheel-drive tractors that, like the first Eicher all -wheel-drive tractors, had wheels of the same size. These models had an output of 28, 30 and 40 hp; however, only about 25 pieces were built.

The great variety of Sulzer tugs was in many cases influenced by customer requirements.

The regional history district Dasing organized the first Sulzer tractor meeting in Dasing in 2007 . The second meeting was organized in July 2011 in Hergertswiesen near Eurasburg together with the Hergertswiesen Agricultural Museum .
