The Sumpfsee is a lake in the southwest of the city of Güstrow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is around 2.7 kilometers long and around 560 meters in the north-eastern part and 280 meters wide in the south-western part. On the south-east bank, the lake borders the town of Gutow . The Sumpfsee is a channel lake and was created during the last Ice Age ( Vistula Ice Age ) from a former meltwater channel that was permanently filled with water after the ice had receded. The lake is fed to the south from drainage ditches in the Dammkoppel , north from Gutow and north from the cathedral meadows . In the north the water has a connection via the Pfaffenteich and the city moat from Güstrow to the Nebel . South of the marsh lake is the partially rewetted Gutower Polder with a bird watching tower.
The lake is only accessible via the former bathing area in the north.
