Sunch'ŏn-shi ( 순천 ; 順 川 ) is a city in P'yŏngan-namdo Province in North Korea . It has 297,317 inhabitants (as of 2008), 141,806 of whom lived in urban regions. The city is an important industrial city and is home to various production facilities.
history
In December 1951, the Sunch'ŏn Air Battle of the Korean War was fought near Sunch'ŏn between the Royal Australian Air Force and two North Korean allies - China and the Soviet Union.
economy
The city is an important industrial location, u. a. the cement industry. Limestone and coal reserves are in the area. The city is also home to the Vinalon factory Sunch' , n , which produces the synthetic fiber Vinalon .
Infrastructure
Sunch'ŏn Station is on the P'yŏngra and Manp'o lines of the Korean State Railways . With Sunch'unchn Airport , the city has a small airfield.
