P'yŏngan-namdo (South P'yŏngan) is a province in North Korea . It was created in 1896 when the province of P'yŏngan-do was divided into P'yŏngan-pukto and P'yŏngan-namdo. The capital of P'yŏngan-namdo Province is P'yŏngsŏng .

geography

The province is bordered by Pyongyang and Hwanghae-pukto in the south, Kangwŏn-do in the southeast , Hamgyŏng-namdo in the east, the Yellow Sea in the west and Chagang-do and P'yŏngan-pukto in the north .

Administrative division

The P'yŏngan-namdo province is divided into five cities, three districts and 19 counties.

In 2004, the special administrative region of Namp'o , a city under central administration of the government of the province of Pyŏngan-namdo, was attached. These are the city of Namp'o and the counties of Ch'ŏllima, Kangsŏ, Taean and Ryonggang. Namp'o had the status of a special city within the province. In 2010, the city and these districts and Onch'ŏn district were spun off as Namp'o again.

The province is home to the Pyongyang Golf Complex and the Pukchang Power Plant , North Korea's largest electricity supplier.
