The Sundapirol ( Oriolus melanotis , Syn. : Oriolus viridifuscus ) is a species of bird in the family of orioles .

Occurrence and habitat

The Sundapirol occurs only in the Timor and Wetar Endemic Bird Area . Its existence is not endangered. On Timor , Wetar , Semau and Roti it is only sparse, but on Atauro it is common in the mountain forests around Mano Côco , at altitudes above 750  m . It is widespread and common in forests with closed canopy up to sea level. The calls of the specimens on Atauro differ from those of O. m. melanotiswho lives on Timor, Roti and Semau. Even the feather headdress typical of the males of this subspecies could not be observed on Atauro. The sundapirole on Atauro are therefore either O. m. finschi or a subspecies not yet described.
