The Sundoro or Sindoro is an active stratovolcano in central Java , Indonesia . The extremely symmetrical, 3136 meter high mountain cone is a good ten kilometers northwest of the Sumbing volcano .
In the summit area there are active fumaroles , a small lava dome and a number of smaller craters created by phreatic explosions . The summit, like several side craters on the slopes, was the starting point of lava flows . Nine eruptions of the Sundoro are known from the 19th and 20th centuries . The last outbreak occurred in October and November 1971; this resulted in phreatic explosions at the summit.
The river Progo has its source north of the Sundoro .
