Sundsvall Dragons is a Swedish basketball club based in Sundsvall .

history

The association was founded in 1939 as KFUM Sundsvall . For the 1993/94 season, the club changed its name to Sundsvall Dragons . This season was also the first Sundsvall competed in the 1992 newly established, highest Swedish basketball league, Svenska basketligan . In 1997 they made it into the play-offs for the first time, in the quarterfinals the Solna Vikings team lost . Sundsvall made it to the semi-finals for the first time in 1999/00. From this point on, the Dragons established themselves as the top team in the league. In the following two years they reached the semi-finals again, against Plannja Basket and Norrköping Dolphins they failed.

In the 2004/05 season, the club reached the championship final for the first time. After winning the first two games against Södertälje Kings , the series was lost 2: 4. At the same opponent, the team failed in the quarter-finals the following year. After 2007 in the semi-finals the Dragons reached the final for the second time in 2008. This final series was also lost, clearly with 0: 3 against Solna Vikings .

In the 2008/09 season Sundsvall reached the final again. This time they prevailed against Solna and won the first championship. Two years later, the Dragons celebrated their second championship. The final series against Norrköpping was just won 4: 3. In 2012, the team was out of shape and failed in the quarter-finals.

The Sundsvall Dragons completed 19 of 20 possible seasons of the Svenska basketligan and occupies fifth place in the all-time table.
