Sungai Muda is the longest river in the state of Kedah , Malaysia .
geography
It has a length of about 203 km and a catchment area of about 4302 km². Its sources are on the border with Thailand in the northern mountains of Kedah. In its lower reaches it forms the border between the states of Kedah and Penang until it flows into the Strait of Malacca about 12 km north of the island of Penang . There are several dams in its catchment area, for example the Beris Dam and the Muda Dam.
Hydrology
On the lower reaches of the Muda, the annual monsoon rains repeatedly lead to flooding.
