Sunset is a town in Montague County in the US state of Texas . According to the 2000 census , it had a population of 339 in an area of ​​2.8 km². The population density is 121 per km².

history

The first settlers settled on the current site of Sunset around 1870. In 1880 local residents applied for a post office called Smithville, named after the township grocer, Sam Smith. The name was already taken, so post officials christened the city Sunset.

After the Denver Railway was built through the city, more and more people moved to Sunset. By 1900 the community had 600 inhabitants and factories, shops and large ranches were built in the area. Sunset's economic situation remained stable over the next few decades until the Depression. As a result, the city lost shops, production facilities and large farms. The development of modern agriculture also contributed to the decline in ranch operations in the area. At one point Sunset only had 200 residents; In 2000, 339 people lived in Sunset.

In 2009 the city was evacuated due to a forest fire. The fire destroyed many homes and businesses in Sunset.

Demographics

According to the census in 2000 , 339 people lived here in 133 households and 90 families. The population density was 123 per km². 151 residential units were recorded.
