List of apple varieties

Suntan , also Malling Suntan, is a variety of the cultivated apple (Malus domestica). The apple was grown at the East Malling Research Station in 1955. He won an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society .

The color of the large apple consists of a green-yellowish base on which orange-red forms with yellow. The shape of the apple is round and the stem is short. The taste is intense and aromatic with hints of pineapple, but can be too strong. Suntan flowers about 10 days after Golden Delicious and is harvested in Europe in mid-September. The winter apple will keep in the fresh store until February. The suntan tree produces regularly, which means that it has only weak alternation and delivers good yields.

Suntan is not self-pollinating and, as a triploid apple, is also poorly suited for pollinating other apples. It is moderately susceptible to powdery mildew , and susceptible to speck and hard frost.
