Sunyer II (Empuries)

Sunyer II. (* Around 840, † 915 ) had been Count of Empúries and Count of Roussillon since 862 . He was a son of Sunyer I , Count of Empúries.

Together with his brother Dela , he took over the county of Empúries after they rose against Humfried , the Margrave of Gothien ( Septimania ). In 896 his cousin Miró the Elder died and Sunyer took over his county of Roussillon.

The attempt to conquer Girona failed because of the resistance of Wilfried the Hairy . Sunyer traveled to Orléans in 888 to pay homage to King Odo of France . In 891 he prepared a sea attack on the Moorish Almería . However, this venture ended in a truce.
