Girona county
The County of Girona or County of Gerona is one of the historic Catalan counties . The county’s capital was Girona .
The county became part of the Duchy of Gerona in 1351 when King Peter III. von Aragon bestowed the title of Duke on his firstborn son Johann. For the area of the duchy, Peter IV summarized the previous counties of Gerona, Besalú , Ampurias and Osona .
In 1414 King Ferdinand I awarded the title of Prince or Prince of Gerona to his first-born son, Alfons . The title is currently held by Crown Princess Leonor of Spain (now as Princess of Girona ).
