Rampó

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rampó (* around 770 , † around 825 ) was the Frankish Count of Barcelona in what is now Catalonia . It is attested from 814 to 822.

After the forcible deposition of Count Berà , Emperor Ludwig the Pious thought it wiser to transfer his county to a nobleman who was not affected by the local disputes in the Spanish Mark . He chose the Franconian Rampó, who must have already served Emperor Charlemagne loyally, because it was Rampó according to the report of the astronomy , Vita Hludowici, cap. 21, who was sent from Aachen with the news of Karl's death to his son Ludwig the Pious, King of Aquitaine in 814 . When Rampó came to Orléans , however, Bishop Theodulf von Orléans there guessed the reason for his trip and came before Rampó with his own messenger to Louis the Pious.

In addition to the county of Barcelona, Rampó also ruled over the counties of Girona and Besalú . On the orders of the court in Aachen , he conquered areas occupied by the Moors up to the Segre River . Bernhard of Septimania , who was first attested as Count of Barcelona in 827, was appointed his successor .
