Hteik Supayalat ( Burmese စုဖုရားလတ် , officially Sri Suriya Prabha Ratna Devi သီရိ ပ ဘာ ရတနာ ဒေဝီ , also Princess Myadaung; born December 13, 1859 in Mandalay , Burma ; † November 24, 1925 in Rangoon , British India ) was the last queen of the Konbaung dynasty in Burma .

biography

Supayalat was a daughter of King Mindon Min and his wife Alenandaw, also known as Hsinbyumashin.

Supayalat was married to her half-brother Thibaw Min , who was put on the throne in 1878 as the last king of the Konbaung dynasty. She is best known for the massacre she staged of eighty to one hundred members of the royal family, through which she eliminated potential rivals for the succession to the throne. She always denied any knowledge of such a plan, referring to her mother and some ministers, including Chancellor Kinwun Mingyi U Kaung.

Supayalat is portrayed as a strong personality who showed himself to be fearless even at the sight of bare weapons, in contrast to her husband, King Thibaw Min. Together with him, after the defeat of Upper Burma by the British, she was first to Ceylon and finally Ratnagiri near Bombay ( India ) exiled. She returned to Rangoon in 1919 and died there on November 25, 1925.
