Superbird 7 , is the seventh communications satellite from Space Communications Corporation , part of the Japanese SKY Perfect JSAT Group .
Superbird 7 was launched on August 14, 2008 together with the AMC 21 television satellite with an Ariane 5 rocket from the Center Spatial Guyanais spaceport in Kourou . It is intended to replace the eleven-year-old Superbird C satellite and was renamed Superbird C2 after its launch . The satellite was built by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation on the basis of their DS2000 satellite bus. According to the operator, it is the first satellite to be built simultaneously in Japan and operated by a Japanese company. Its aim is to deliver broadband internet and HDTV to consumers in Japan , East Asia and the Pacific region.
