The Surenburg , a moated castle in the Tecklenburger Land , is located in Riesenbeck , a district of Hörstel .

There is no documentary information about its origin. It is believed that it was founded as a manor after the conquest of Bevergern by the Bishop of Münster in 1400.

It was first mentioned in documents in 1474 as the residence of the Lords of Langen.

In 1612 it came to the von Münster family .

In 1786 it was bought by the country nobleman Carl Heinrich Heereman von Zuydtwyck, who came from Roermond in the Netherlands . His descendants, represented today by Philipp Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck , still live there today.
