Suriyavong II. , Also Suryavong II. (Full throne name Somdet Brhat Chao Suriya Varman Raja Sri Sadhana Kanayudha ; * in the 18th century, † 1791 in Bangkok ) was king of the Laotian kingdom of Luang Phrabang between 1768 and 1791 .

Suriyavong was the ninth son of King Inta Som (ruled 1723 to 1749) and his wife Queen Dhanasavuni. In 1768 he succeeded his older brother Sotika Kuman , who abdicated and died in 1771. That year, Suriyavong attacked Vientiane , an ally of the Burmese , who then attacked Luang Phrabang in order to make Luang Phrabang a vassal state . In 1778 he gave up his allegiance to Burma, but in the following year he had to recognize Siamese sovereignty under King Taksin the Great . In May 1788, on the orders of King Rama I, he was taken hostage to Bangkok, where he remained with the rest of the royal family until his death.

In 1782 Suriyavong married Queen ( Mahadevi ) Dhanakam (Taenkham), a princess of Mueang La. He died in Bangkok in 1791, leaving two sons:

  1. Prince ( Sadet Chao Fa Jaya Anga ) Beng, Prince Suprasit, Governor of Lampang
  2. Prince ( Sadet Chao Fa Jaya Anga ) Wi (Oui) or Ui
