Suryapet is a city in the Indian state of Telangana .
The city is the capital of the Suryapet district . Suryapet has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 5 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census it had 106,805 inhabitants in the urban agglomeration , of which 52,773 were men and 54,032 women . The literacy rate in 2011 was 83.1%, slightly below the national average for cities. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of around 86%.
