Susana Szwarc (born May 29, 1952 in Quitilipi , Chaco Province , Argentina ) is an Argentine writer and poet .

Life

Susana Szwarc was born in Argentina as the daughter of Polish-Jewish immigrants . Her parents had fled to Argentina on more or less illegal routes in 1947/48, in the turmoil after the end of the Second World War (the father via Paraguay , the mother via Brazil ). Szwarc never got to know her grandparents: Her father's parents, along with his siblings and other relatives, perished in one (or different) concentration camps that are unknown to this day during the Nazi era in Poland . The mother's parents, on the other hand, ended up in a detour via a labor camp in Siberia to Buxoro (then the Soviet Union , now Uzbekistan ), where many relatives died of epidemics.

Together with her sister, who was one year older, Susana Szwarc was sent to Buenos Aires alone from the province of Chaco as a child. In her youth she joined groups on the left. She currently lives in Buenos Aires, where she has been running writing workshops at public and private institutions since 1985 .
