Susanne Rohn

Susanne Rohn (born June 29, 1966 in Waldshut am Hochrhein) is a German conductor , organist and church musician .

Live and act

Rohn studied Protestant church music in Freiburg im Breisgau as well as organ and harpsichord as a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service in Toulouse. She completed her postgraduate studies in organ (soloist diploma) in Basel (with Guy Bovet ) and her postgraduate studies in conducting in Freiburg (with Hans Michael Beuerle and Peter Gülke ) with distinction.

In 1997 Rohn was elected cantor of the Erlöserkirche in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe . She took part in national and international organ competitions and regularly gives organ concerts, takes part in professional chamber choirs and early music ensembles and occasionally takes on solo roles as a singer. In a trio with Konrad Graf (1st percussionist of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra ) and Reiner Schmidt (euphonium and trombone, also Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra), she gives concerts whose programs also include works from the jazz and pop fields.

Her conducting repertoire spans different epochs and styles and also contains works that go beyond the standard repertoire.

In 1997 and 1998 Rohn held a teaching position for conducting at the Freiburg University of Music , and from 2001 to 2006 she taught organ at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. From 2006 to 2009 she was professor of choral conducting at the Robert Schumann University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf. In 2010/2011 she took over a professorship for conducting at the Musikhochschule Freiburg, and since October 2011 she has been teaching conducting at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz.

With Susanne Rohn as organist, conductor or singer, CD recordings and radio productions were made, for example for Swiss radio DRS, Südwestfunk and Hessischer Rundfunk. A CD with the title Naturbilder from 2008 contains organ works from the Renaissance to the modern age , played on the three organs of the Erlöserkirche. There is also the work "Landscapes of Patmos" by Petr Eben for organ and percussion (here played by Konrad Graf).

In cooperation with the baritone Klaus Mertens , a CD with Dvořák's “Biblical Songs” and Josef Klička's organ sonata in F sharp minor was released on the RONDEAU label in Leipzig in March 2011. In May 2015, a CD with two composer portraits followed on the RONDEAU label: “Two Generations” with choral and organ works by Zoltán Gárdonyi and Zsolt Gárdonyi , with the participation of Rudolf Müller, Würzburg.
