Susanne Rohr

Susanne Rohr (* 1958 in Lübeck ) is a German Americanist .

Life

From 1979 to 1987 she studied German , American and political science at the Free University of Berlin and Cornell University . From 1987 to 1991 she worked on the dissertation On the Beauty of Finding. The internal structure of human understanding according to Charles S. Peirce : abduction logic and creativity in Jürgen Trabant . After her doctorate in 1991 summa cum laude in American studies at the Free University of Berlin, she was a research assistant (C1) at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at the Free University of Berlin, Department of Literature from 1995 to 2003 . After his habilitation in 2001 in American studies; Habilitation thesis on The Truth of Deception: The Constitution of Reality in the American Novel 1889 to 1989 she represented the C4 chair for North American literature, Heinz Ickstadt , at the John F. Kennedy Institute of the Free University of Berlin in the summer semester 2004. From September 2004 to September In 2006 she was senior research assistant (C2) at the John F. Kennedy Institute of the Free University of Berlin , Department of Literature. From September 2005 to September 2006 she was on leave to work in the DFG project: Change in the Holocaust Representation in the Latest American and European Artworks in Different Media . Since October 2006 she has taught as a professor for literature and culture in North America at the University of Hamburg . From the 2018/2019 winter semester up to and including the 2019/2020 winter semester, she has an opus magnum scholarship from the VW Foundation , followed by a regular research semester in the 2020 summer semester.

Her focus is on literary and cultural theory, semiotics, American pragmatism, American literature of the fin de siècle and the 20th century, poetry of the American avant-garde, Jewish-American literature and international Holocaust representations of the late 20th century.
