Susanne Schütz is a German diplomat . She was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Albania from 2016 to 2019 .

Life

After graduating from high school in Düsseldorf in 1979, Susanne Schütz began studying Slavic , English and American studies at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster , which she continued at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Freie Universität Berlin and the State University of Leningrad , and graduated in 1988 with a Magistra artium (MA) from the Free University of Berlin. In 1988 she began her training for the higher service at the education and training center of the Federal Foreign Office . After completing this apprenticeship with a career examination, she worked at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in 1991 and then in 1991 for some time at the embassy in the Soviet Union . She then worked at the embassy in Ukraine between 1991 and 1994 and at the embassy in Israel from 1994 to 1997 , before returning to the Foreign Office between 1997 and 2000.

Subsequently, Susanne Schütz worked at the embassy in Russia from 2000 to 2003 and then at the Foreign Office between 2003 and 2007, before she was permanent representative of the ambassador to Ukraine from 2007 to 2010. She then acted as head of the department for Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova in the Foreign Office between 2010 and 2012 and then from 2012 to 2015 as head of the political department at the embassy in Italy and was subsequently permanent representative between 2015 and 2016 of the ambassador to Italy.

On July 1, 2016, Susanne Schütz succeeded Hellmut Hoffmann as ambassador to Albania . Since August 1, 2019, she has been a representative (sub-department head) in Political Department 2 of the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. Her area of ​​responsibility includes bilateral relations with Turkey , Switzerland , Liechtenstein , Iceland and Norway as well as bilateral relations with the countries of the Western Balkans .
