Susanne Viernickel

Susanne Viernickel (* 1960 ) is a German pedagogue and professor at the University of Leipzig .

Live and act

From 1980 Viernickel studied education with a focus on infant education and social education as well as psychology and sociology at the Free University of Berlin . There she passed her diploma in 1988 and then worked until 1990 as a research assistant in the field of toddler education and the project Conflict and Cooperation with One to Four Year Old Children under the direction of Kuno Beller . After completing the graduate program "Qualitative Social Research" at the Free University of Berlin in 1991 and a stay as a visiting researcher at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in Bethesda , Maryland , Viernickel became a research assistant at Wolfgang Tietze's Berlin chair in 1996 and worked on his quality project in day-care centers and child development . In 1998 she was in Berlin with Scripture "Shared meanings in peer interactions of children in the second year" for Dr. phil. did her doctorate and then worked there as a university assistant in the field of infant education.

This was followed in 2005 by a substitute professor at the University of Giessen . From 2005 to 2007 Viernickel held a professorship for "Education Management / Focus on Early Childhood" at the Remagen location of the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences. In 2007 she moved to the chair for early childhood education at the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences in Berlin . From 2011 to 2014 she was Vice Rector for Studies and Teaching at this university. Viernickel has held the full professorship for early childhood education at the University of Leipzig since 2017.

Viernickel's research focuses primarily on early childhood education processes, observation methods, quality and quality development in early childhood institutions and professional development as well as the requirements for the educational work of kindergarten teachers and the importance of education in the elementary sector.
