Suure-Jaani (Estonian: Suure-Jaani vald ) was a municipality in the Estonian district of Viljandi with an area of ​​748.8 km². On January 1, 2006 the community had 6,222 inhabitants. The administrative center of the municipality was in the town of the same name, Suure-Jaani .

history

The rural parish was formed on October 22, 2005 when the city of Suure-Jaani and the parishes of Suure-Jaani, Olustvere and Vastemõisa merged into one parish. On October 21, 2017, after the merger of the city of Võhma and the communities of Suure-Jaani, Kõo and Kõpu, the rural community of Põhja-Sakala was founded.

Culture and sights

The small museum dedicated to the Estonian painter Johann Köler and the local museum founded in 1971 by the Kapp family of musicians were particularly worth seeing .
