Karksi-Nuia (German Karkus-Nuija ) is a city in southern Estonia . The city is administratively part of the Mulgi municipality in Viljandi County .
history
Karksi-Nuia lies in a glacial valley between two smaller lakes. A real settlement actually emerged only in the second half of the 19th century from the houses of craftsmen and agricultural workers. These are grouped between the historical manor of Karksi ( German Karkus , Swedish Karkhus ) and the tavern and the Orthodox Church of Nuia (German Nuija ).
The villages of Karksi and Nuia were merged in 1987 to form the large village ( alevik ) Karksi-Nuia. In August 1993, Karksi-Nuia were given city rights. This decision was reversed in 1999, Karksi-Nuia was part of the municipality of Karksi until October 24, 2017; now it is part of the municipality of Mulgi.
