Svandalsfoss

Svandalsfossen is the name of a waterfall in Norway . The Svandalselva flows into the Saudafjord south of Saudasjøen in the municipality of Sauda ( Rogaland ) . It has several steps and a total height of 180 meters. The uppermost part of the waterfall has a free fall height of 40 meters.

Svandalsfossen is located at Riksvei 520 . With normal water flow, only a small part of the water sprays onto the road, but after heavy rainfalls or when the snow melts, the fog can be so thick that driving through it with vehicles becomes risky.

On May 4th 2007, Statens Vegvesen opened a lookout point with parking on the street. The beach on the Saudafjord and a viewing platform can be reached via stairs. together there are 540 steps from the fjord to the highest accessible point of the waterfall.

The lookout point is the first attraction built for the future Nasjonal turistvei in Ryfylke .

Haugaland Kraft has asked for a permit to build a power plant on Svandalsfossen. The Fylkesmann von Rogaland has advised that the NVE reject the application.
