Svava Björnsdóttir

Svava Björnsdóttir (born June 9, 1952 ) is an Icelandic artist.

education

From 1972 to 1974 she studied in Paris at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts . She then obtained a BA in Icelandic and French at Háskóli Íslands .

From 1978 to 1984 she continued her artistic training in Munich at the Academy of Fine Arts . There, the Scottish artist Eduardo Paolozzi introduced her to the material paper for creating works of art, in which she has since specialized.

Paper sculptures

The paper sculptures created by Svava Björnsdóttir are mostly large-format, strongly colored and appear weighty. Only when approaching does the viewer realize that they are made of paper.

For an exhibition of her works in 1999 in the Icelandic National Gallery , the latter published a commentary volume.

From April 1 to May 8, 2011 she exhibited a selection of her works together with the painter Inga Ragnarsdóttir in Kunstraum 24 in Stuttgart .
