Svendborg Rabbits

The Svendborg Rabbits are a basketball team from the Danish city ​​of Svendborg . The home hall is Svendborg Idrætshal.

history

The beginnings of basketball in the city of Svendborg go back to 1951, from then on the sport was practiced in the club Svendborg Idrætsforening. In 1958 the Svendborg Basketball Club (SBBC) was founded.

In 1999 SBBC rose to the second and 2000 to the first Danish division.

In 2006 the professional team was spun off from the club and renamed Svendborg Rabbits. Between 2007 and 2013, the duel between the Bakken Bears  and Svendborg determined Danish men's basketball. During these years, the two teams faced each other seven times in a row in the final of the Danish championship, with Svendborg six times as runner-up and in 2010 champions. The outstanding player of the championship year was the American Johnell Smith. In 2008, 2012, 2014 Svendborg won the Danish Cup competition (2012 and 2014 in the final against Bakken), in 2010 and 2011 Svendborg Bakken lost in the cup final. One of the most formative figures of these successful years was the Canadian Craig Pedersen , who was the team's coach from 2003 (until 2006 as player-coach) to November 2015.

In the 2008/09 season Svendborg was represented for the first time in a European club cup and took part in the Eurochallenge competition.
