The AB Svenska Godsbilcentraler (abbreviated ASG) was a transport company based in Stockholm , which was founded in 1935 by the Stockholms Rederi AB Svea . From 1959 owned by the Kungliga Järnvägsstyrelsen - commonly called Statens Järnvägar (SJ) - the ASG was sold to the Swiss company Danzas in 1999 .

founding

The reason for founding the ASG was a study of the future development of freight traffic, which Stockholms Rederi AB Svea carried out itself in 1932. On July 1, 1935, the ASG started operations, but was not registered as a subsidiary of Rederi AB Svea until July 12, 1935 by Emanuel Högberg (then CEO of Stockholms Rederi AB Svea).

history

The first year was not very successful with a loss of 5,777 kroner and 6 ore. In 1937 the world-famous ASG logo was designed, which adorned the company vehicles until the company was sold to Danzas. In 1939 the company had 35 branches in Sweden, with around 140 drivers it moved up to 450 company vehicles and achieved a cargo turnover of 550 million crowns. 50% of the ASG shares were sold to the Kungliga Järnvägsstyrelsen by Rederi AB Svea in 1941 .

In 1946, ASG took over transports to other European countries, which were supplemented by air freight from 1949 and were available in Eastern Europe from 1952. From 1959 the ASG belonged 100% to the state railways. The transport route Gothenburg - Stockholm - Leningrad - Moscow established itself in 1969 as a permanent connection to Eastern Europe . In 1978 AB Svenska Godsbilcentraler was renamed ASG AB and in 1980 carried out the major order to transport all equipment for the Summer Olympics in Moscow .

The Scandinavian forwarding company ERT (European Road Transport) was taken over 50% in 1995 by ASG, which was taken over 100% in 1996. In the same year, 100% of the refrigerated freight forwarder Frigoscandia was acquired. Frigoscandia, however, was sold to SCI (Security Capital Industrial Trust) the following year.

In 1998 ASG was one of the leading companies in the transport and logistics sector in Northern Europe. It employed 5,700 people and had sales of SEK 12 billion (€ 1.35 billion). Danzas, which had been working with ASG since 1993, took over ASG in 1999 and was bought by Deutsche Post AG in the same year . In 2002, Deutsche Post bought the logistics company DHL , under whose name the entire logistics division of Deutsche Post has operated since autumn 2003. Since then, the vehicles of ASG, Danzas and Deutsche Post have been running with the look of DHL.
