Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic) is the debut album of the extreme metal band Behemoth . It was recorded at Warrior Studio in 1994 and released by Pagan Records in 1995.

Before that, the band released their EP And the Forests Dreams Eternally with the support of the Italian label Entropy Productions . On this, Behemoth referred to Slavic geography and mythology which was associated with Satanism .

In 1995 the Pagan Records label released Behemoth's first album Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic) ; this was also recorded with poor equipment, which did not change until around 1996 or 1997. The band, especially band founder Nergal , presents this album in the retrospective as the first turning point in the four-year history of the band, as it received an all-round positive international response. This is how the German label Solistitium Records became aware of them. Due to a lack of financial support, Behemoth ended the collaboration.

The album cover shows the picture The Temple of Swarog by Stanisław Jakubowski .

style

The style of the album differs significantly from that of later albums, Behemoth is influenced here as well as on And the Forests Dream Eternally and … From the Pagan Vastlands by Norwegian Black Metal, their music was comparable to the earlier Enslaved and due to the use of keyboards, Piano and acoustic guitars at times very atmospheric. The production is raw and the guitars are sawing, which Nergal attributes to poor equipment.
