Svetozar Marović
Svetozar Marović (Cyrillic Светозар Маровић; born March 31, 1955 in Kotor , Yugoslavia ) is a Montenegrin politician . He was the only President of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Serbia and Montenegro. He is married and has two children.
He was elected on March 7, 2003. He studied law in Titograd and worked as a lawyer. He became a member of the Montenegrin Parliament in 1990 and has since been President of Parliament three times.
He was a co-founder of the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro , which recently also advocated the independence of Montenegro .
On September 10, 2003, on behalf of his country, he apologized to Croatia for the atrocities during the war. Croatian President Stjepan Mesić thanked for the fair gesture and apologized on the same day on behalf of Croatia. This happened when the Croatian President visited the Serbian capital Belgrade .
On November 13, 2003, Marović visited Bosnia and Herzegovina . There he also apologized in the same way to the Bosnian people on behalf of his country. The response to this surprising gesture was positive, but the Bosnian side did not apologize for the crimes committed against Serbs. This was disappointing, the Bosnian and Serbian media reported at the time and criticized it. Marović then announced at a press conference that Serbia and Montenegro were not accepting the blame of the Balkan conflict through these official apologies, but merely admitting their own mistakes, and expected that the "Bosniak" side would also admit them.
Marovic resigned from his post on June 4, 2006 after his homeland Montenegro had declared its sovereignty the day before, due to the independence referendum on May 21, and thus sealed the dissolution of the state.
On October 5, 2006, Marović announced that he no longer wanted to take on a state position in Montenegro. However, he will keep his post as Vice President of the Democratic Party of Socialists until the next party congress.
