Svetlana Sergeyevna Cherkassova

Svetlana Sergejewna Cherkassova ( Russian Светлана Сергеевна Черкасова , scientific transliteration Svetlana Sergeevna Čerkasova ; born May 20, 1978 in Belogorsk ) is a Russian middle-distance runner .

The 800-meter runner started at the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, the 2002 European Championships in Munich and the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, but failed each in the semifinals.

She finished seventh at the 2005 World Cup in Helsinki and eighth at the 2006 European Championship in Gothenburg. At the 2007 World Cup in Osaka, she was eliminated in advance.

A week before the start of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, she was temporarily banned by the IAAF for violating the anti- doping guidelines . On the basis of DNA analyzes, she and six other Russian athletes were accused of having fraudulently given urine to other people during doping tests . It was banned for doping until April 30, 2011.
