Svetlana Jakowlewna Surganowa ( Russian Светлана Яковлевна Сурганова ; born November 14, 1968 in Leningrad ) is a Russian composer and writer. She sings, plays guitar and violin .

Band history

In 1993 she and Diana Arbenina were one of the founding members of the Russian rock band Notschnyje Snaipery , where she worked as a composer, singer and violinist. In December 2002 she left Notschnye Snaipery and founded her own band Surganowa i Orkestr, with which she released the first album in 2003, albeit under her own name.

Further publications followed, the album "Sol '" (2007) was named one of the 10 best Russian rock albums of the year by Русский репортер magazine . Surganova is open about her homosexuality in interviews and song texts, which made her an icon of the Russian LGBT movement.
