Svetlana Vladimirovna Babushkina

Svetlana Vladimirovna Babushkina ( Russian Светлана Владимировна Бабушкина ; English transcription: Svetlana Vladimirovna Babushkina ; born February 15, 1992 in Brjansk ) is a Russian wrestler . She won a bronze medal in the weight class up to 67 kg body weight at the 2013 European Championships .

Career

Svetlana Babushkina comes from Tatarstan and started wrestling as a teenager in 2003. She belongs to the Lokomotive Bryansk sports club . Her first trainer was her father, Vladimir Babushkin. Nikolai Koslow and Ramil Islamow were added to this in 2012 and 2013 respectively. With a height of 1.70 meters, the strong athlete wrestles in the second heaviest weight class of women’s wrestling, which goes up to 67 kg body weight.

She first attracted attention at the Russian Junior Championship 2011, where she took 3rd place in the weight class up to 67 kg behind Maria Lyulkowa and Oksana Nagornich. In 2012 she then won this title in the same weight class in front of Svetlana Lipatowa and Julija Pronzewitsch. In 2012 her international wrestling career began. That year she became Junior European Champion in Zagreb ahead of Karina Stankowa from Ukraine. At the Junior World Championships 2012 in Pattaya she reached the final, in which she was defeated by Dorothy Yeats from Canada.

At a Russian women's championship, Swetlana Babuschkine has not yet been able to place in the medal ranks. Because of her good results at important international tournaments, she was used in March 2013 at the European Championships in Tbilisi. She lost there in the weight class up to 67 kg in her first fight against Alina Stadnyk-Machynja from Ukraine, but then secured a bronze medal in the consolation round with victories over Galina Levtschenko, Belarus and Darija Osocka, Poland.
