Martina Kuenz (born November 1, 1994 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian wrestler . At the 2018 World Championships in Budapest , she won the bronze medal in freestyle wrestling in the weight class up to 72 kg.

Life

After secondary school in Zirl, Martina Kuenz attended the commercial school for competitive sports in Innsbruck , which she graduated in 2013. She is a member of the Ring Sport Club (RSC) Inzing and has been taking part in competitions as a wrestler since 2009. In June 2017 she was presented to the Ministry of the Interior as a top athlete , and in September 2017 she began basic police training.

At the beginning of May 2018 she prevailed against Danute Domikaityte from Lithuania at the European wrestling championships 2018 in the class up to 68 kg in the fight for third place and won the bronze medal. At the 2018 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest , she defeated the Egyptian Samar Hamza on October 24, 2018 and won the bronze medal in freestyle wrestling in the weight class up to 72 kg. She won the first World Cup medal in wrestling for Austria since Nikola Hartmann in 2000.

In April 2019 she won the silver medal in the class up to 76 kilograms at the European Wrestling Championships 2019 in Bucharest . In the final she was defeated by the Turkish defending champion Yasemin Adar . With the finals she qualified for the European Games 2019 in Minsk in June .
