The switch power distribution company ( short : switch ) is an electricity supplier in Austria . The company was founded on March 21, 2001 in Salzburg , Austria. Switch is a subsidiary of Energieallianz Austria GmbH (EAA). In addition to Austria, Switch is also active in Germany and supplies private and business customers with electricity and natural gas .

history

Switch was founded on March 21, 2001 as one of the first private, non-governmental companies on the liberalized electricity market in Salzburg. At first, customers in Austria were only supplied with electricity. In 2005 switch opened another location in Vienna in addition to Salzburg . Since then, the operational business has shifted to the new location until the company headquarters were relocated to Vienna in 2012 .

At the beginning of the market liberalization in 2001, the company positioned itself as one of the first alternative energy providers on the market. The company has been selling natural gas since 2006. Switch entered the German market in 2008. Today switch supplies the entire Austrian and German federal territory with electricity and natural gas. In the 2014/15 financial year, switch achieved a result of around 2.2 million euros.

In 2016 and 2017, Christoph Schmidt headed the company. Christian Ammer and Erwin Göschl have been running the switch Vertriebsgesellschaft since February 1, 2018. Since this change in management, Switch has pursued a new strategy in the energy market. The provider wants to increase transparency for customers by reducing tariffs to just one electricity and one gas tariff and does not use complex discount models.

reception

In 2015 and 2016, switch was voted “Austria's best electricity provider” twice in a row by the independent consumer society ÖGVS in cooperation with the magazine “Trend”. At the end of 2016, switch started a special natural gas offer in cooperation with the Kronen Zeitung .
