history

The company was founded in 1981 as Mabrouc SA by student Robin Cornelius for the purpose of marketing the Switcher brand and later the Whale brand. Switcher's first collection consisted of two products: a t-shirt and a sweatshirt. In 1985, the color system was introduced, which is supposed to guarantee the consumer constant colors. In 1986 a permanent camp was set up in Mont-sur-Lausanne. A year later we started working with the Indian supplier «Prem Group», with whom we still work today. On March 25, 2004, Switcher founded the Switcher Foundation , which is committed to sustainable development. Since July 2010 the Indian textile group Prem Group Company (PGC) (share: 86 percent) has been co-owner of Switcher SA alongside founder Robin Cornelius.

The company employs around 120 people and in 2007 generated sales of 82 million Swiss francs. The textiles are manufactured by business partners with production sites in China, India and Portugal and sold through a network of around 450 franchised sales outlets.

On May 26, 2016, the Lausanne District Court declared the company bankrupt.

Exercise of social responsibility

From 1991 onwards, various measures were taken that focused on the company's social responsibility. Impressed by the environmental summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, they tried to «translate the global concept from this meeting into local actions», so the entire corporate policy was subsequently revised. In 1998, a code of conduct for Switcher's suppliers came into force, which was checked through regular audits. In the same year Switcher took part in the pilot project Clean Clothes Campaign . In 2003 a first CSR report from 2002 was published and a staff council was created. In 2004 the Switcher Foundation was founded, which is committed to sustainable development with projects in Africa, China and especially in India. In 2005 the page respect-code.org was created, where you can trace the path of every single product using a "DNA". In 2006, Switcher's collection was reorganized into five basic worlds for the company's 25th anniversary. Since 2007, Switcher has been the first Swiss textile production company to be a member of the Fair Wear Foundation .

In 2010, the non-governmental organization Declaration of Bern compared the standards of working conditions in production countries by means of surveys and internet research at 77 fashion labels. Switcher was placed in the best "advanced" category out of five categories.

collection

In 2006, for the company's 25th anniversary, the collection was reorganized into five worlds, divided according to purpose: Basic, Sport, Outdoor, Fashion and Junior. In addition to a permanent basic collection, which includes 60 models for adults, 20 for children and around 10 accessories, Switcher has monthly trend collections. In addition to these normal collections, there are also special collections such as “ WWF ”, “ Max Havelaar ” or the official “ Swiss Olympics Collection” and now “Geelee”. There is a palette of 20 colors and 15 trend colors that change every six months, the "Switcher Color System". Since Switcher products are mostly without motifs, they are often used for individual printing / embroidery by companies and associations, which is also marketed by Switcher itself.
