Sydvästlänken

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SydVästlänken is the high-voltage line from Norway to southern Sweden , construction of which began in 2012 and which has a transmission capacity of 1200 MW. Sydvästlänken is Swedish and means south-west connection line .

Overall project

The overall project SydVästlänken with Kern in southern Sweden and the center in Barkeryd (north of Nässjö ) consists of the following:

South connection

The project includes a high voltage line 400 kV with a length of 180 km and a direct current line of 250 km and the associated substations and rectifiers.

  • A 400 kV overhead line starting in the Halsberg substation to the nearby Östansjö substation and continuing south to Barkeryd, which was put into operation in April 2015. The existing central 400 kV north-south connecting line was also integrated into the Barkeryd substation.
  • High-voltage direct current transmission (HVDC) with +/− 300  kV between the newly built converter stations Barkeryd (Nässjö) and Hurva (Hörby) as a double line, with the planned commissioning at the end of 2016. At a distance of 60 km between Nässjö and Värnamo, the Transmission via a direct current overhead line . The remaining 190 km are transmitted by underground cables, the transmission capacity being 2 times 600 MW.World icon

The cost of the southern connection is estimated at 800 million euros.

West connection

  • High-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission with +/- 300  kV between the Tveiten substation (Norway, south of Oslo) and the Barkeryd substation, the project has been postponed for the time being

Further planning

Further connections planned or under construction to the new Barkeryd substation:

  • DHÜ connection between the Ekhyddan substation (on the Swedish east coast) and the Barkeryd substation
  • DHÜ connection between the Hallsberg substation (north) and the Barkeryd substation.

HVDC project 1

The existing HVDC project of the overall SydVästlänken project is called Sydvästlänken . It is a 260 km long, double HVDC land connection for a transmission capacity of 2 × 660 MW. The DC voltage is +/- 300 kV, the nominal current per conductor (in the case of overhead lines this is two ropes per conductor) is 1.1  kA .

The line connection with 2 × 2 conductors consists of the following sections:

  • approx. 10 km underground cable from Barkeryd to Nassjö
  • approx. 60 km overhead line from Nassjö to Värnamo (across the landscape)
  • approx. 190 km of underground cable from Värnamo to Hurva (mainly along the E4 motorway in a roughly 50 m wide cleared hard shoulder).

The HVDC cables were supplied by ABB, the converter stations (2 × 2 pieces) are being built by ALSTOM. The HVDC overhead line begins on the site of the Nässjö substation (HVDC cable from there to Barkeryd). The 130/60 kV substation Nässjö is connected to the 400 kV / 130 kV substation Barkeryd via a 130 kV overhead line.

HVDC project 2

HVDC project 2 of the overall SydVästlänken project is still in the preparatory phase. This is an HVDC land connection up to 500 km long. The route finding is still in progress according to the route variants specified in. The Trollhättan - Barkeryd line should definitely be wired. A submarine cable route is also being considered in the Oslo Fjord. Since a multi-terminal HVDC connection in Barkeryd should not be ruled out, this speaks in favor of the design of this second HVDC project with a DC voltage of +/- 300 kV.
