The Sykow Island ( Russian Остров Зыкова Ostrow Sykowa ) is an island off the coast of Queen Marie Land . In the Haswell Islands group , it lies between Fulmar Island and Buromski Island .
The team from the west base of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson discovered and mapped them. Soviet scientists carried out a new mapping in 1956 and later named it after the navigator Yevgeny Sykov, who died on February 3, 1957 during the Soviet expedition.
