Sylvester Grabe (Librarian)

Sylvester Grabe (born July 14, 1674 in Königsberg ; † December 5, 1727 there ) was a German librarian and physician .

Life

Sylvester Grabe was born on July 14, 1674 in Königsberg as the son of the Lutheran theology professor Sylvester Grabe (1627–1686) and his wife Sophie Behm, a daughter of theology professor Michael Behm . His older brother was the theologian Johannes Ernst Grabe .

After Grabe had studied medicine at the University of Königsberg , he received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Leiden in 1700 . Three years later he went to Königsberg Castle as a librarian . In this position he wrote a list of the books of the local castle library ( silver library ) and a list of the estate of the noble Radziwiłł family in 1712. He also worked as a royal councilor and personal doctor . On December 5, 1727 he died at the age of 53 in his hometown.
