Sylvia Hoffman

Sylvia Hoffman (born August 31, 1938 in Berlin , often spelled "Sylvia Hoffmann" or "Sylvia Hofmann") is a German author and television director . In the 1980s and 1990s she was an important writer and director for the television series “ Tatort ” for the Hessischer Rundfunk . From 2009 to 2013 she was artistic director of the Volkstheater Frankfurt .

Career

Hoffman was born in Berlin in 1938 as the daughter of a conductor and an opera singer. In 1958 she married the American journalist and writer Richard Huffman. The couple has three daughters and lived in Paris, Munich, Washington DC and ran a theater in New York.

Hoffman began her artistic career in 1959 with the writing of radio plays that were broadcast by a large number of German-language stations. She got into film in 1982 as a screenwriter and director for the series "Kontakt Please" ( Taunusfilm ). In the following 25 years she wrote scripts and / or directed a large number of episodes of the series " Peter Strohm ", "Lauter Glückspilze" and "Doctors" as well as fifteen episodes of the crime series "Tatort" and nine television films for the main evening program of ARD . She wrote the first of a total of four plays in 1981 ("Der Quereinsteiger"). Rowohlt Verlag also published Sylvia Hoffman's only novel "Cold Training" in 1982.
