The Green Car is an Austrian touring theater.

The theater was founded by Alexander E. Franke and, along with the Neue Schaubühne in Munich, is one of the oldest German-speaking touring companies since 1945. In the 1960s, the former Hollywood director William Dieterle was temporarily director and owner of the theater.

Over the years, around 100 productions have been brought out and important directors (including Werner Düggelin , Heinz Hilpert , Wolfgang Liebeneiner , Gustav Manker , Rudolf Noelte ) and prominent actors (including Hans Clarin , Theo Lingen , Karl Paryla , Elisabeth Bergner , Marianne Hoppe ) are connected to the ensemble. After William Dieterle , Otto Ander - Viennese theater director - and Jürgen Wilke, artistic director and castle actor , acquired the Green Car in 1983 . From 1989 Jürgen Wilke was the sole owner.

In the 2005/2006 season, Thomas Stroux took over sole management of the traditional Viennese theater company Der Grüne Wagen from Jürgen Wilke . The well-built, entertaining comedy is close to his heart, and he has made it his mission to stage it with a lot of love and precision. The Green Car is represented by Konzertdirektion Schlote , Salzburg.
