Sylvia Shaw Judson

Sylvia Shaw Judson (born June 30, 1897 in Lake Forest (Illinois) , † 1978 ) was an American sculptor .

During her lifetime she was best known in the Chicago area, but her works were also shown in the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art .

The 1936 sculpture Bird Girl achieved great fame when it appeared on the cover of the 1994 novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and the poster for the film of the same name . Since then, scaled down reproductions of the sculpture have been popular as garden decorations.

In 1965, Sylvia Shaw Judson was elected a member ( NA ) of the National Academy of Design in New York .
