Báhoň (Hungarian Báhony ) is a municipality in the Pezinok district in Slovakia north of Bratislava .
Location and general
The municipality is located in the vast valley of the Váh River , on the Bratislava – Žilina railway line .
Báhoň is best known for its wineries. The place is located on the Small Carpathian Wine Route, which connects all the important wine communities in the region.
history
The place was first mentioned as Bahun in 1244. Due to its proximity to Bratislava , the area of the place belonged to today's capital and thus later also to the sphere of influence of the Hungarian kings . In the middle of the 16th century, a strong German influence developed in the place. This population group has become very dominant over the years. This dominance decreased half a century after the immigration of a Croatian minority. Only after the establishment of Czechoslovakia did the community become completely Slovak.
In 1580 the ruling Jazernický family built a manor house, which was expanded between 1759 and 1765. It was rebuilt in neoclassical style in 1816 and renovated in 1935 and 1936. In the 1930s the mansion was converted into a home for the blind .
In 1845 the horse-drawn tramway from Trnava to Bratislava was opened in Báhoň. The railway had a lasting influence on the social and industrial development of the community, which was reinforced by the opening of the railway from Bratislava to Žilina.
Between 1914 and 1921, a Catholic church named after Francis of Assisi was built in Báhoň . The architect of the building was Milan Michal Harminc .
Between 1974 and 1990 the parish was larger than it is today, because the parishes Kaplna and Igram also belonged to the parish Báhoň.
